FIJI – ASTM D7797 / IP 583 is now included as a specification test for FAME.

The key details are as follows;

DEFSTAN 91-91 Issue 7, Amendment 3

  • FAME has now been listed in DefStan 91-91 in table 1, under a new heading ‘Incidental Materials’.
  • The FIJI instrument, ASTM D7797 / IP 583 has been included as an accepted alternative test in Table 2
  • Inclusion of FAME in table 1 means that it is now a mandatory requirement to report the FAME content – both at point of manufacture and for re-certification purposes.

 ASTM D1655

  • FAME is now listed in Table 3 Identified Incidental Materials
  • FIJI – IP 583 / ASTM D7797 is an authorised test method for FAME

Please be aware of the following:

  1. Use of liquid verification solutions to validate apparatus performance is now mandatory  – ‘The overall correct operation of the apparatus shall be checked at least every 3 months, following maintenance, when a new detector is fitted, or according to local quality control requirements by measurement of a solution of hydrogen sulfide’

Participation in a Proficiency Testing Scheme is stated as the preferred means to achieve this mandatory requirement.

For further information on the PT Scheme: www.seta-analytics.com/ip-570-proficiency-testing-scheme.htm

  1. An alternative test vessel is available

To simplify sample introduction, an alternative test vessel is available. The inlet and outlet connections have been enhanced to make connections to the instrument quick and easy and prevent incorrect orientation. Upgrades to accommodate the alternative test vessel can be easily installed in the field via an upgrade kit. Part number: SA4022-0

For further information on the upgrade kit: www.stanhope-seta.co.uk/4840/Test-Vessel-Upgrade-Kit

  1. A note regarding FAME – ‘Samples containing FAME do not affect the measurement of hydrogen sulfide by this test method’

Real-time Conductivity Measurement resolves SDA dosing discrepancies and saves close to USD 100k per annumSeta_C

A Major Asian refinery with crude capacity close to 10mt approached Stanhope-Seta and D-2 Technologies to assess JF-1A no texttheir options for automatic dosing of Static Dissipater Additive (SDA) in the JET fuel stream. The following case study shows the technologies employed that resulted in an estimated annual saving of USD100k and a reduction of labour by 50%.

Seta’s Analyser improves the testing of H2S in Crude Oils

In a move towards standardising a method for the measurement of H2S in Crudes Stanhope-Seta, with support from the Industry, undertook a study to show that IP 570/ASTM D7621 can be modified to measure the concentration of H2S in stabilised crude oil.

As a result of the study a Crude Oil Appendix to ASTM D7621/IP 570 Procedure A is currently in progress.

queens-award-for-enterprise-innovation_2014

Our principal Stanhope-Seta Ltd is proud to announce that it has been awarded the Queens Award for Enterprise 2014 in the Innovation category for developing technology which measures Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) in fuels. The Innovation award is the second honour to be bestowed upon Stanhope-Seta following their presentation of the Queens Awards for International Trade in 2012.

The Innovation award 2014 has been granted for the design and manufacture of the H2S Analyser. Stanhope-Seta’s H2S Analyser has pioneered a new and ground breaking approach to the measurement of H2S in liquid fuels affecting safety and environmental aspects of handling fuels. The H2S instrument has been adopted widely by the shipping and fuel handling industry and now represents a benchmark for the measurement of this important characteristic of the fuels.

“We are delighted to receive this award.” says Giles Verity “It is the culmination of a project that has spanned over six years. Not only has the new instrument brought an unparalleled increase in the safe handling of the fuels, it has also brought this important Innovation award to the company. We will continue to fly the flag for Britain with its development and manufacturing excellence.”

In a joint statement, company Directors Giles and Martin Verity said “The Queens Award is the most prestigious business award made to UK companies and winning a second award, this time for Innovation, is a proud and defining moment in the company’s history. We recognise that this represents a unique achievement and our success is a reflection of the efforts of our loyal and hard working team as well as the development of innovative new products.”
